I hope you have had a chance to start the book and are enjoying getting to know these characters. The town of Norvelt is a real town, with a pretty interesting history. Jack Gantos has a deep personal admiration for Eleanor Roosevelt. What was her connection to Norvelt? Why did Jack's dad call Norvelt a "Commie" town? How would you describe Miss Volker's commitment to the community?

I am really like "Dead End in Norvelt." My favorite characters are Miss Volker and Mom. My favorite part so far is when Jack is showing his friend bunny that books smell good! So funny. Can't wait for school to start!
